Give your favourite garments a second life! In this hands-on workshop, learn the beautiful art of visible mending—a creative approach to repairing clothing that celebrates imperfections and transforms wear and tear into unique design details.

In this 3-hour class, you’ll learn two essential visible mending techniques: basic darning and decorative patching with embroidery. Discover how to repair holes, reinforce worn areas, and add beautiful handmade details that make your clothing truly one-of-a-kind.

You’ll practice creating woven repairs using darning techniques and explore how fabric patches, embroidery stitches, and decorative details can turn a damaged garment into something you’ll love wearing again.

Whether you’re repairing a well-loved pair of jeans, a favourite sweater, or simply want to explore slow stitching and sustainable sewing practices, this class will give you the skills and confidence to start mending at home.

Supply List:

• A garment or textile item to mend (optional but encouraged)
  • Examples: jeans, denim jacket, sweater, coat, tote bag, or other well-loved item
    
    
•  Fabric scraps for patching (cotton, linen, denim, or quilting cotton recommended)
  
  
• Embroidery floss or mending thread in colours of your choice
  
  
• Darning thread, wool yarn, or embroidery floss for woven repairs
  
  
• Embroidery scissors or small thread snips
  
  
• Hand sewing needles: Embroidery/crewel needles size 7–9 (for embroidery floss and decorative stitching)
  
  
• Darning needle (large eye with a blunt tip)
  
  
• Thimble (optional but recommended)
  
  
• Needle threader (optional)
  
  
• Small embroidery hoop (optional, 4–6" recommended)

CLASS POLICY

Thank you for choosing Out of Hand Quilting & Fabrics for your creative endeavours! We're excited to have you join our classes and learn new skills. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, we have established the following store policy regarding class enrollment:

1. Registration: By registering for a class, either online or in-store, you are entering into a contract for participation in that class. We kindly ask that you carefully consider your schedule and availability before enrolling.

2. Class Cancellations + Shop Credit: Class registrations are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. If we are able to fill your spot from the waitlist, you will receive a shop credit for the value of the class. If we are unable to fill your spot, no refund or shop credit will be issued.

3. Transferability: Class registrations are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you cannot transfer your enrollment to another person. 

4. Minimum Class Requirements: Please note that classes have a minimum requirement of participants to cover instructor and staff costs and ensure an enriching learning environment. We will make every effort to meet these requirements and run the class as scheduled. In the event that the minimum class requirement is not met, participants will be notified 1-2 weeks in advance. Only in this instance, a full refund will be issued to those who have already enrolled. We understand that this may be disappointing, but it is necessary to maintain the quality and viability of our classes.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we genuinely want to support your passion for creative exploration. We encourage you to reach out to us as soon as possible if you find yourself unable to attend a class you have registered for. This will allow us to explore the possibility of filling your spot from the waitlist and providing you with an in-store credit.
