Tip Tuesday: Art Gallery Fabrics Edition
Welcome to this week’s Tip Tuesday - this week we’re spotlighting a gorgeous new tutorial featuring the newest fabric collection by Bari J. - Fairview Avenue.
Art Gallery Fabrics just released a stunning lookbook and one quilt in particular stole our hearts: the Vintage Wonders Quilt. With its timeless design and beautiful movement, it perfectly showcases the soft colours and elegant florals of the fabric collection.
While the Vintage Wonders Quilt is designed using 10” square precuts, you can absolutely recreate this look using yardage. Cutting your own 10” squares is a great option and gives you even more flexibility when choosing which prints to feature.
If you’re feeling inspired, this quilt is a wonderful way to showcase the Fairview Avenue fabrics we have available. Be sure to take a peek at the Lookbook for more project ideas using this timeless collection.

Instructor Spotlight

Rosalyn brings years of experience teaching beginners and helping new sewists feel at ease at the machine. She has a warm, patient approach that builds confidence step by step and makes learning feel approachable—whether someone is threading a machine for the first time or returning after a long break. Her classes are inviting, encouraging, and designed to give students a strong foundation to grow from.
Instructor Q&A
How did you get started teaching sewing?
I started teaching when I moved back to Calgary after living in Toronto, where I re-learned how to sew and discovered quilt-making and garment-making. I initially thought I’d focus on teaching weaving, but I kept finding my way back to sewing — textiles are just my favourite way to create. I wasn’t sure I’d be any good at teaching at first, but after running a few classes, I realized that introducing curious minds to the basics of sewing is what I love most. Helping people meet the machine for the first time (or reintroducing them to it) is incredibly rewarding. With patience, fun projects, good tunes, and zero pressure, anyone can learn this skill.
What do you enjoy most about working with brand-new sewists?
Hands down, it’s the moment they finish their first project. Seeing that mix of pride and excitement never gets old.
What’s one foundational skill that makes the biggest difference for beginners?
Leaving perfection at the door. Come in knowing you’ll make mistakes — and that it’s completely okay. No pressure, just enjoy the process. Your seam ripper is your BFF; the more mistakes you make, the faster you grow.
What’s your favourite sewing room staple?
I have three: snips, masking tape, and a portable stereo. I’m always reaching for snips to trim threads — it’s such a good habit to build. Masking tape is my go-to for marking a seam guide on the machine, and of course, a good playlist or podcast always helps you settle into a sewing zone.
