Tip Tuesday - April 21, 2026 - Stranded Floss & Perle Cotton

Tip Tuesday

If you’ve ever stood in front of the thread wall debating what to reach for—this is one of those small choices that can completely change how your stitching looks and feels.

Stranded floss and perle cotton might seem interchangeable at first, but they behave very differently once you start working with them. The way they sit, the way they build texture, even how much control you have—it all shifts depending on which one you choose.

This is something Marilyn goes deeper into in her Intermediate Embellishment Stitches class, especially when it comes to using thread intentionally rather than just reaching for what’s familiar.

If you’ve taken the class, you’ve probably already started noticing the difference. If not, this is a good place to start paying attention to it in your own stitching.

And if you’re ever unsure in-store, we’re always happy to help you choose something that suits the look you’re going for.

Maker Spotlight - April 21, 2026 - Jessica's Octopus Quilt - Foundation Paper Pieced

Jessica C’s Abysmal Octopus—and what a first go at foundation paper piecing.

She took Quilting 101 with Edith not too long ago, and it’s been so fun watching her build confidence and then run with it. This project definitely pushed her outside her comfort zone, and that’s exactly what makes it so good.

The sharp angles, the movement in the tentacles, the colour placement—it all comes together in such a striking way. And pairing it with that textured quilting on the dark background? So effective.

A great reminder that trying something a little intimidating is often where the magic happens.

Huge congratulations, Jessica C—this one’s seriously impressive
