Patti’s Holiday Pick

Patti is sharing a holiday favorite—her perfected Scuffle recipe! Light, flaky, and coated in cinnamon-sugar goodness, these delicate crescents were a go-to recipe for Patti and her friend and have become a holiday staple. Patti’s been baking these for years, and she’s fine-tuned the process to make sure they turn out just right. (Trust me, I quality checked them myself).

Ready to give them a try? Here’s Patti’s (perfected) Scuffle recipe:

Ingredients

1 pkg yeast

1/4 cup warm water

3 cups flour

1 cup butter

3 tbsp sugar

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 cup milk

1/2 tsp vanilla

2 beaten eggs

1 cup sugar (for rolling mixture)

1 tbsp cinnamon (for rolling mixture)

Instructions

  1. Soak yeast in 1/4 cup warm water for 5 minutes.
  2. Mix flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Add milk, vanilla, eggs, and yeast. Knead until soft.
  3. Cover and let the dough sit in the fridge overnight.
  4. In the morning, bring dough to room temperature. Divide into 6 parts.
  5. Roll each part thin and sprinkle with the sugar and cinnamon mixture on both sides. Use a small dish to cut circles, then slice into crescent shapes.
  6. Roll crescents, place seam-side down on a greased pan, and bake at 325°F for 15–20 minutes. Bake slowly and don’t let them get too brown.

Patti’s Tip: Roll the dough thin and keep the crescents small. This is the secret to making them flaky and perfect!

Fun Fact: Scuffles, also known as "cinnamon twists," are a staple in many Ukrainian-Canadian households. They’re lighter than cinnamon buns and pair perfectly with a hot cup of coffee or tea.

Have you ever made scuffles before? Or will they new to your holiday baking list?
