Tip Tuesday
Foundation Paper Piecing can feel a little fussy at first… but a few good tools make the process so much smoother.
Here are three notions we reach for all the time when working with foundation paper piecing:
- A metal stiletto to run along seams and quickly lift the paper away
- Thread tweezers for grabbing those tiny stubborn bits (especially where seams meet at a point)
- A wooden seam roller so you don’t need to run to the iron after every seam
None of these is strictly required… but once you try them, they tend to earn a permanent spot beside the sewing machine.
Do you have a favourite tool that makes FPP easier?

Patti’s Staff Pick
A modern botanical project that’s easy to pack and perfect for stitching on the go made this week's Staff Pick!
Before heading off on her latest adventure, Patti picked up Petal Pop from Zen Chic to bring along with her travel sewing. The pattern includes three bold botanical motifs with clean, modern shapes that really shine when paired with thoughtful fabric choices.
The instructions walk you through machine appliqué, but the design also works beautifully for needle turn — a great option for anyone looking for a relaxed handwork project that’s easy to tuck into a travel bag.
To help you get started, we’ve also put together kits featuring our favourite Essex linen paired with a curated 16-print selection from @allikdesign's new True to Hue collection.
A lovely project for slow stitching, travel sewing, or adding a little modern botanical art to your space.
