Discover the timeless art of hand smocking in this technique-focused class! Smocking is a beautiful traditional embroidery technique that gathers fabric into soft pleats while creating intricate decorative patterns. It's a wonderful skill to add texture, detail, and heirloom-quality craftsmanship to garments and accessories.

In this class, we'll be using a Purl Soho dress pattern as our learning project. To maximize class time, all fabric pieces will be pre-cut before class. Together, we'll focus on learning the fundamentals of hand smocking, including how to read the design, work the stitches, maintain even tension, and create beautiful, consistent results.

During class, you'll be able to start and get most of the smocked section by hand. The remaining construction of the dress will be completed at home using the pattern instructions.

Once you've learned the technique, you'll be able to incorporate hand smocking into children's clothing, dresses, blouses, cuffs, yokes, and many other sewing projects.

CLASS POLICY

Thank you for choosing Out of Hand Quilting & Fabrics for your creative endeavours! We're excited to have you join our classes and learn new skills. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone, we have established the following store policy regarding class enrollment:

1. Registration: By registering for a class, either online or in-store, you are entering into a contract for participation in that class. We kindly ask that you carefully consider your schedule and availability before enrolling.

2. Class Cancellations + Shop Credit: Class registrations are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, please let us know as soon as possible. If we are able to fill your spot from the waitlist, you will receive a shop credit for the value of the class. If we are unable to fill your spot, no refund or shop credit will be issued.

3. Transferability: Class registrations are non-transferable. If you are unable to attend, you cannot transfer your enrollment to another person. 

4. Minimum Class Requirements: Please note that classes have a minimum requirement of participants to cover instructor and staff costs and ensure an enriching learning environment. We will make every effort to meet these requirements and run the class as scheduled. In the event that the minimum class requirement is not met, participants will be notified 1-2 weeks in advance. Only in this instance, a full refund will be issued to those who have already enrolled. We understand that this may be disappointing, but it is necessary to maintain the quality and viability of our classes.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we genuinely want to support your passion for creative exploration. We encourage you to reach out to us as soon as possible if you find yourself unable to attend a class you have registered for. This will allow us to explore the possibility of filling your spot from the waitlist and providing you with an in-store credit.
