Tip Tuesday

Part 3 of our 4-part Liberty Tana Lawn™ series is all about fat 8ths — a really satisfying scale that lets Liberty’s prints do the talking.

Jamie’s sample is made using Grandma’s Flower Patch, a free pattern by Krista Moser. One of the things we love about this project is the opportunity it gives to show off your favourite prints, making it a great option if you are working with Liberty Fat 8ths.

Instructor Spotlight

Instructor Spotlight - January 21, 2026

Instructor Spotlight - January 21, 2026 - Kim M

With years of experience teaching sewists of all levels, Kim M brings strong technical knowledge and a clear, supportive approach to the classroom. Her skill-based classes focus on building confidence through technique, giving students practical tools they can use again and again.

Kim M's Q&A:

How long have you been teaching sewing, and what keeps you inspired?

Nearly 20 years — which still amazes me. I’m endlessly curious and always looking to learn. Inspiration comes from people, music, reading, and time in nature. More often, I’m reining ideas in rather than searching for them.

What do you enjoy most about teaching technique-based classes?

The enthusiasm. Students show up wanting to learn or strengthen a skill, and I love sharing techniques that build confidence and practical experience. My goal is always for people to leave excited to sew more.

One tip you wish more people knew earlier?

Stitch out your sewing machine. Creating a stitch library helps you fully understand — and actually use — the features your machine offers.

While many of Kim’s classes are quickly waitlisted, we still have spots available in:

Catch Up with Kim — a monthly Sunday session for projects at any stage.

Fine Finishing — a four-part series focused on quilt finishing techniques.
