Tip Tuesday: Side-Threading Needles
Sometimes it's the smallest tools that make the biggest difference.
Side-threading needles are designed to make hand stitching easier—from quick, frustration-free threading to burying thread tails with ease. They also accommodate heavier threads, making them a versatile addition to your sewing kit.
Whether you're working on wool appliqué, hand embroidery, hand quilting, or simply mending a favourite garment, these needles can help make the process smoother and more enjoyable.
Have you tried side-threading needles before? We'd love to hear what you use them for!

Kim M's Staff Pick
Kim M has been exploring the world of sashiko this year, and it has quickly become one of her favourite hand-stitching techniques. Her current favourite resource is Essential Sashiko, a fantastic reference book featuring 92 traditional patterns, stitch diagrams, and projects for every skill level.
She's currently stitching the One Stitch Sashiko (Hitomezashi) pattern from the book, using Sulky Solvy to create a fresh take on this beautiful traditional design.
Along the way, Kim has found a few favourite tools that have made learning sashiko even more enjoyable:
Olympus & Tulip Sashiko Needles – Long, sturdy needles designed to load multiple stitches at once, making sashiko stitching smooth and comfortable.
Clover Iron-Off Marking Pen – Perfect for marking your stitching lines. Simply stitch over your marks, then remove them with a warm iron when you're finished.
Hidamari & Olympus Sashiko Thread – Beautiful cotton threads designed specifically for sashiko, with the perfect weight and finish to create crisp, defined stitches.
Whether you're curious about trying sashiko for the first time or looking to expand your stitching library, Kim would love to help you get started. Stop by the shop and ask her about her latest project!
