In 1996, Deidre opened Out of Hand in Calgary.
Over the years, she delighted in serving and befriending her customers from all walks of life.
However, the time recently came for her to focus on other commitments and retire.
In a serendipitous January 2021 encounter between Dei and one of her customers, Jamie, it became clear that Jamie would be the next owner of Out of Hand and would continue the shop's tradition.
Jamie, a former oil and gas engineer and the co-founder of SewTites magnetic sewing pins, dreamed for years of owning a quilt shop and is excited to focus on the thing she loves to do – quilt and sew!
She's already enjoyed getting to know the customers she's met since starting at the store and looks forward to getting to know those of you online and in person too – and hopes to become Canada's go-to quilting and sewing source.
She and her team look forward to sharing knowledge in life and sewing with you as she walks this path – along with her husband, Brent, who will be working at the store and behind the scenes, and two young boys as well.
